A special thank you to our wonderful judges who will have the distrinction of choosing our $500 scholarship winner. These individuals are well versed in non-profits, education, and volunteerism.

  • Sylvia Hennessie

Sylvia Hennessie is a Teach For America alum who recently completed her MEd in Early Childhood Education at George Mason University. A prekindergarten teacher at DC Prep Benning Elementary in Northeast DC, Sylvia worked previously in Baltimore City Public Schools implementing a service learningĀ curriculum for middle schoolers. She is a graduate of Towson University where she received her degree in Family Studies and Community Development.

  • Catherine Lehman

Catherine Lehman heads the Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) Program within the State College Area School District. She coordinates tutoring and mentoring services through recruiting college students at Penn State to assist area youth with improving their grades, working out personal problems, and, in the case of international students, improving their English speaking and writing skills. She is the co-founder of The Prom Attire Event, an organization, now in its seventh year, that offers prom attire to low and moderate income families at no cost.

  • Tricia Morrin Lloyd

Tricia Morrin Lloyd is the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at The Institute of World Politics, a graduate school for national security and international affairs in Washington, DC. She is a graduate of The Catholic University of America. An avid Miss America supporter, Tricia represented the District of Columbia at the 1988 Miss America Pageant and currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Miss District of Columbia Scholarship Organization.

  • Mike Thomas

Mike Thomas is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University where he received his degree in International Politics. He is President and CEO of The 367 Project, a non-profit geared towards addressing community challenges. He is an Eagle Scout and has volunteered countless hours working with youth in his community.
